OHS Wrestling Rules for the 2011-12 Season Before you are allowed to practice, you must:
Have a Physical, and Insurance form turned into the Athletic Director
Pass the Alpha Weigh in before season starts
Absences and Tardies – Practices and Meets:
3 Unexcused absences you will be cut from the squad!
If you have to miss a practice you must always call the school and leave a massage on my phone, call the coach on his cell.
If you are late because of class work, simply bring a note. However you will be asked to stay after practice to make up what you missed.
Practice will start at 3:15 pm daily unless otherwise posted. You must be dressed and ready
Do not leave the wrestling room without permission.
This means do not leave to check weight etc. during practice time.
All wrestlers (entire squad) are expected to be in attendance at the entire home contest. Attendance is considered a must. You must help set up and roll mats after each home contest. Your team needs your support. Be there! An absence will count as one of the three.
You will be allowed 2 personal day this season, you must inform the coach that you are taking off in person or by a call. The personal day cannot be taken before a Meet.

Class Responsibilities – behavioral problems in the classroom may endanger your position on the squad. You must put academics FIRST!
Practice Responsibilities– be Present and be Tough. Treat practice as an opportunity, not an inconvenience.
Don’t Loaf in Practice! If you are not putting an honest effort into practice you will not compete.
Wear Clean Gear to practice every day! This is a must
You must shower after every practice before you leave
Have a positive attitude and try everything that is asked of you… Never say “I can’t”
Wear your serous face in the practice room! This does not mean that practice can’t be fun, but nobody laughs after being defeated!......
Everyone needs to pitch in when work needs to be done.
Absolutely not Hazing of any team member. We are a family.
When you compete you will show honor… Win or Lose!!! To be part of this team you must be tough and show every opponent you wrestle against that you are tough, and you will never give up, and that you will smile when you kick ass!!!
Meet Responsibilities: -
It is against team policy to spend the time with girlfriends in the stands. When you have down time Wrestling needs to be on your mind!!!
Leave all locker rooms clean after use. Make sure nothing is taken that does not belong to you. Pick up on the bus and suburban, You will run if I have to clean up after you!
No guys will sit with girls on the bus or car ride.
Always use proper language.
You must ride home with the team unless parents have signed you out with the coach or manager.
You will warm up 15-20 minutes before you wrestle. When we have down an intermission in tournaments there will be a team meeting.
Challenge Match Procedure
The Coach does not select the team. They will select who has the right to challenge for a Varsity, J.V. position. This will come from attendance, practice work ethic, and class/school behavior.
The Challenge match will be on Tuesdays of the week.
Everyone is open to a challenge match at the coach’s discretion. Nobody owns a spot.
Challenge matches – Must be within 5 pounds after the challenge.
Weigh in Procedure:
Challenge matches – Must be within 5 pounds after the challenge.
Before you leave practice the night before a meet you need to be within 1 pounds!
Home Matches – All wrestlers should be present 30 minutes before the weigh in
Away Matches – All wrestlers should be present 30 minutes before we leave.
Make weight through proper nutritional diet, Hard Work and never spit during class time. This give our sport a bad image.
Choosing the proper weight class that is suited to your body is essential for optimum success in the sport of wrestling. Follow suggested eating habits, work hard in practice, don’t stave and gorge, and you weight should never be more than 7 pounds at any time. Winners make sacrifices! Loser make excuses!
Letter Requirements (Varsity):
Compete in 50% of the varsity matches.
Win a Medal in the Conference or Regional Tournament.
All seniors who complete the full season will letter.
Junior Varsity – all wrestlers who do not letter varsity will letter junior varsity if they finish the season in good standing.
A wrestler who is injured may letter at the Varsity level if he has sufficient matches.
